UNFPA is funded entirely by voluntary contributions. Our partnerships with governments make a positive difference in the lives of those most in need.
UNFPA works across more than 150 countries and territories to champion everyone’s sexual and reproductive rights and choices, and we rely on our partners to achieve this mission jointly. UNFPA has long-standing partnerships with donor governments that are committed to making sexual and reproductive health and rights a priority, through predictable funding and technical support.
Government partners provide crucial voluntary funding all year long, ranging from highly flexible funding (core funding) to resources that are channeled to specific countries or programmes (non-core funding). In 2022, more than 80 per cent of our funding came from government partners and the European Union.
As we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development, government partners can offer UNFPA the support and advocacy necessary to realize the promise of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all.
UNFPA calls on all partners to provide the maximum amount of flexibility, which is critical to respond to emergency situations and maintain an international presence – especially in countries that may not be in the spotlight.
