Results in Chad

With limited health infrastructure, poverty is widespread in Chad, and harmful traditional practices such as early marriage are prevalent. Active in the country since 1986, UNFPA works to reduce the high maternal mortality rate and to strengthen capacities at the Ministry of Public Health, including through the provision of medical equipment and reproductive health commodities, among other initiatives. UNFPA also assists in improving the training of gynaecologists, obstetricians and midwives, essential to providing quality services.

Result achieved in 2024

28 facilities in the emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) network provided complete EmONC functions, representing 44 per cent of maternity facilities in the network

2

Over 1,100 young people were trained in digital skills including computer science, graphic design, WordPress and drone piloting to develop applications addressing sexual and reproductive health and rights issues

A Family Planning Investment Case was developed, providing an evidence-based policy tool for reproductive health planning

A functional national gender-based violence database was installed, while response services reached approximately 2,780 gender-based violence cases

Over 1.1 million adolescents and young people (10–19 years) accessed reproductive health services including family planning, STI/HIV management and prenatal care

Over 325,000 assisted deliveries were supported in 12 intervention provinces, representing 56.4 per cent of all deliveries, while 403 women received obstetric fistula treatment
