Results in Kenya

Despite steady economic growth, rich cultural and biological diversity and a strong tourist industry, many people in Kenya live in poverty, worsened by severe drought. Addressing the country’s rapid population growth is seen as key to sustainable development, as outlined in the national planning strategy known as Kenya Vision 2030. UNFPA’s contribution includes strengthening reproductive health services, improving supply chains for contraceptives, advocating against gender-based violence, and facilitating integration of population dynamics into policy formulation.

Result achieved in 2024

1

Over 400,000 women, girls, boys, and men accessed life-saving sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence (GBV) services through strengthened integrated health and GBV services in humanitarian settings

2

Quality-assured family planning commodities worth over $4 million were procured — projected to avert over 179,690 unintended pregnancies, 510 maternal deaths and 51,740 unsafe abortions, while providing 381,440 couple-years of protection (CYP)

3

Over 836,000 adolescents and young people accessed integrated sexual and reproductive health and rights information and services, with reach expanded through strategic multi-platforms, including the Development Impact Bond programme

4

26 counties successfully implemented the integrated logistics management information system (iLMIS), improving visibility across the supply chain and reducing stock-outs. The system was recognized internationally with the Second-Best Innovative Health Supply Chain Solution Award at the 2024 Global Health Supply Chain Summit.

5

Eight youth-led innovations on sexual and reproductive health information and services were implemented, reaching 315,000 young people

6

Over 20,000 cases of GBV, FGM, or child marriage were reported in 2024, with 1,380 prosecutions and 555 convictions achieved through a multi-sectoral approach involving community awareness, justice sector capacity building, and school-based interventions
