UNFPA Sudan

With conflict in Sudan leaving many pregnant women lacking in services, UNFPA supports partners on the ground to provide life-saving health care, to distribute supplies for safe births and to manage obstetric emergencies through a network of midwives. In response to increased risk of gender-based violence, efforts are under way to train service providers to provide remote psychosocial support for affected women and girls. Since 1973, UNFPA has partnered with the government and civil society in Sudan to focus on reducing maternal mortality through improved and equitable access to basic reproductive health services, while also supporting youth and women’s empowerment and the needs of vulnerable groups including rural, poor and displaced communities.
