UNFPA Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has a history of conflict and sexual violence, and the country has high rates of maternal and newborn mortality and HIV prevalence. With families averaging five or six children, the population is young. Working in the country since 1978, UNFPA aims to improve access to quality reproductive health care services, including HIV interventions, and to integrate population and gender issues into national policies and programmes.
