Facing ongoing economic and social challenges, Guinea suffers from scarce and unevenly distributed infrastructure, equipment and skilled staff across the health system. A large number of girls become mothers before the age of 17, and limited maternal health services have led to high rates of maternal mortality. UNFPA supports reproductive health services by providing programmes that target essential obstetric care; adolescents and youth; family planning; and health commodities. Other initiatives help to produce high-quality data for national policies and programmes, and to establish mechanisms to respond to gender-based violence.
