Regional Situation Report for Syria Crisis #48 1-31 August 2016

UNFPA in Türkiye, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, has supported six new health facilities, raising the number of UNFPA-supported health facilities to 23. UNFPA also opened three new women and girls safe spaces (WGSS) in Türkiye, raising the total number of WGSS from 20 to 23. 

In Egypt, UNFPA  opened two new WGSS in Cairo, raising the total number of WGSS to four.

Sham: a story of hope amid darkness

Sham was born the day after her mother was evacuated from Daryaa, Syria. Her mother was transferred by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to the hospital so she could give birth safely.

After Sham was delivered, she and her mother were moved to the Hirjaleh shelter, where they have been receiving UNFPA-provided medical care and support.
