The Global SDG Synthesis Coalition is a multi-stakeholder initiative that aims to provide rigorous evidence around the five pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. The evaluative evidence synthesis for the peace pillar provides evidence to accelerate progress towards SDG 16, specifically addressing ‘What works to reduce homicides and conflict-related deaths?’.
The peace pillar is co-chaired by OIOS, PBSO, UNFPA, UNODC and UNDP. The synthesis utilizes evidence from 39 impact evaluations and 438 performance and process evaluations, including 10,000 academic studies, United Nations repositories and donor evaluations. The synthesis highlights several areas that could improve the design and implementation of initiatives to reduce homicides and conflict-related deaths, such as social inclusion, peace processes, safe environments, economic conditions, focusing on leaving no one behind, among other areas. Furthermore, the synthesis identifies evidence gaps and provides a roadmap for addressing them.
