Humanitarian needs in Mali remain immense and multidimensional. Currently, 6.4 million people are in need of assistance, with women, children, and young people most affected. The intensification of armed violence and increased access constraints in the north and centre regions during August severely affected sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services. The availability of reproductive health kits remains a pressing concern, and several referral health centres and hospitals are facing critical shortages of medicines and supplies.
UNFPA, through its implementing partners, reached a total of 9,363 people during August - 6,439 with SRH services and 2,924 with GBV prevention, mitigation and response activities. UNFPA continues efforts to mobilize funds to close the significant 80 per cent funding gap of the US$16.5 million required for its humanitarian response in Mali. The funding shortage seriously hampers the availability of SRH services, the prevention of GBV and support services for survivors, and the supply of reproductive health kits for the women and girls who need them most.
