Sudan Situation Report - July 2025

Women and girls in Sudan continue to face alarming risks amid ongoing conflict and mass displacement, with over 80 percent of health facilities in affected areas non-functional. Access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care and protection services for gender-based violence (GBV) survivors remains severely constrained due to shortages of supplies, limited skilled providers, and widespread insecurity. The rainy season has further compounded access challenges and heightened risks of disease outbreaks, while overcrowding and poor conditions in displacement sites have increased vulnerabilities to violence, exploitation, and preventable maternal and newborn deaths.

In response, UNFPA has scaled up the delivery of life-saving SRH and GBV services across Sudan. Between January and July 2025, nearly 188,000 people received SRH services, including antenatal care, safe deliveries, caesarean sections, and postnatal care. UNFPA supported 47 health facilities, deployed mobile clinics, and distributed critical reproductive health kits. On GBV, 270,000 people were reached with prevention and response services, supported through 75 women- and girl-friendly safe spaces and 90 community protection networks. Thousands of women and girls received dignity kits, specialized services, cash assistance, and referrals, while service providers were trained on case management and the clinical management of rape.

UNFPA’s 2025 appeal for Sudan is US$145.7 million, of which only 30 percent has been funded, leaving a gap of US$101.4 million. Despite generous contributions from donors, funding shortfalls continue to constrain service delivery and threaten the continuity of essential programmes. Without urgent and flexible support, millions of women and girls will remain without access to life-saving SRH and GBV services.
