Sudan remains one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with over 30 million people in need of assistance and 10.5 million internally displaced, including 2.5 million women and girls of reproductive age. The ongoing conflict continues to devastate health systems and protection infrastructure, particularly in Khartoum, Darfur, and displacement-affected areas. More than 12 million people — primarily women and girls — are at risk of gender-based violence (GBV), while over 251,000 pregnant women are displaced, many without access to safe delivery services. UNFPA assessments and GBV audits reveal widespread service disruptions, critical supply shortages, and growing risks linked to sexual exploitation and inadequate shelter and sanitation.

In response, UNFPA is delivering life-saving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and GBV services across all 18 states through mobile clinics, static facilities, and women and girls’ safe spaces. Between January and June 2025, more than 127,000 individuals received medical and SRH services, and 12,500 births were supported at UNFPA-assisted facilities. UNFPA also distributed over 50,000 sanitary pad packs and 11,000 dignity kits, trained nearly 2,000 GBV responders, and supported 63 safe spaces for psychosocial support, legal referrals, and community engagement. Cash assistance was provided to survivors and vulnerable women to support access to protection services and safe childbirth.

Despite these efforts, the response is critically underfunded. Of the $145.7 million required in 2025, only 33 per cent has been received. This $97.9 million shortfall threatens the continuity of essential care at a time when needs are deepening and access is increasingly constrained. Without urgent funding, millions of women and girls risk being left without access to safe births, post-rape care, and GBV protection in one of the most dangerous humanitarian contexts in the world.
