Cameroon Situation Report #32 - May 2025

Resource date: Jul 2025

Cameroon continues to face a complex humanitarian crisis fueled by armed conflict, inter-community violence, and climate-related disasters, particularly in the Far North, North-West, and South-West regions. Over 3.3 million people are affected, including more than 87,000 pregnant women. Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs remain acute, with health facility data pointing to gaps in antenatal care, supervised deliveries, and family planning. Gender-based violence (GBV), including sexual violence, remains widespread, further compounding the vulnerability of internally displaced persons, returnees, refugees, and host communities.

In May 2025, UNFPA supported 25 health facilities and provided a range of SRH services, including 1,236 antenatal consultations, 827 safe deliveries, and postnatal and contraceptive services reaching thousands of women. SRH-related outpatient consultations and STI management reached over 3,400 individuals, while hospitalizations for SRH reasons totalled 1,412. UNFPA also delivered GBV prevention and response interventions, including awareness campaigns reaching over 10,000 people, income-generating activities for survivors, and cash transfers to bolster resilience. Coordination mechanisms in Maroua, Buea, and Bamenda were key to ensuring the effectiveness of these efforts.

Despite these achievements, the funding gap remains critical. As of May, UNFPA had mobilized $3.5 million of the $9 million required for 2025, leaving a 61 per cent shortfall. Without additional financial support, the continuity of essential SRH and GBV services is at risk. UNFPA acknowledges the contributions of DG-ECHO, Canada, UN-CERF, and donors to the UNFPA Emergency Fund and Humanitarian Thematic Fund, whose support remains vital to sustaining life-saving assistance for the most vulnerable.
