UNFPA’s global presence in Nairobi encompasses the Programme Division and the Independent Evaluation Office. This headquarters location strengthens the organization’s ability to provide strategic, technical, and programmatic leadership in close connection with the countries and communities it serves across development and humanitarian settings.
The Programme Division serves as the institutional hub for technical leadership, normative guidance, strategic planning, results-based support, and data and analytics—enabling the scale-up of evidence-based interventions and the delivery of integrated programming across UNFPA’s mandate. It is also home to flagship initiatives such as the UNFPA Supplies Partnership, the Joint Programme on the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation, and the Maternal and Newborn Health Thematic Fund.
The Independent Evaluation Office enhances accountability and promotes organizational learning by assessing the effectiveness of UNFPA’s policies, programmes and strategies. It plays a critical role in supporting evidence-informed decision-making and driving continuous improvement.
This strategic presence reflects UNFPA’s commitment to maximizing impact and supporting countries in an evolving global landscape—advancing health, rights, and choices for all.
