Active in Mali since 1973, UNFPA develops programmes to improve the quality of reproductive and sexual health services. Nearly half of the population is under the age of 15; contraceptive prevalence is low, and maternal mortality is high. UNFPA supports hard-to-reach groups and adolescents in particular; assists with developing reliable demographic data; and advocates for human rights and gender equality, including the prevention of female genital mutilation and all forms of gender-based violence.
