Technology and research are increasingly shaping how countries pursue sustainable development and deliver on the Programme of Action of the landmark International Conference on Population and Development.
When grounded in human rights and guided by principles of equity and inclusion, technological innovation and research can expand access to healthcare, education and economic opportunities, particularly for women and young people. Yet significant digital and research divides persist.
Building on the momentum of the ICPD30 Global Dialogue on Technology, UNFPA and the Governments of Luxembourg and Rwanda are convening a high-level side event on the margins of the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on Population and Development, bringing together UN Member States, UN entities, private sector partners, financing institutions and youth leaders to connect global policy discussions with concrete, scalable solutions.
The event will:
- Position technology and research as investable enablers of national development priorities, with a focus on advancing the health, rights and empowerment of women and young people.
- Accelerate action to close digital and research divides, including through innovative financing, cross-sector partnerships and increased investment in underserved contexts.
- Promote safe, equitable and rights-based innovation, ensuring accountability, digital safety and fairness across the technology life cycle.
- Affirm the role of women and young people as agents of change, ensuring that solutions are designed by, for and with them.
