Getting to Zero: Mapping UNFPA Leadership on Ending Gender-based Violence

This report maps the depth and breadth of UNFPA programming to eliminate gender-based violence (GBV), implemented over 2018 to 2020. The mapping exercise sought to determine the strengths in UNFPA's work in ending GBV as well as providing the analysis to support opportunities for increased investment in the quality and coverage of programming.

Women like Kelsang Tshomo, a bus conductor in Bhutan, support women by educating other conductors and drivers on gender-based violence to address it in their own lives and those of public transportation passengers. © UNFPA Bhutan/Sunita Giri

Other innovations on wheels include mobile clinics, like those in remote and conflict-affected parts of Ukraine, where Dr. Ievghenia Kyslytsia, a gynaecologist, examines women for reproductive cancers. © UNFPA Ukraine

Sometimes supporting women comes after a change of mind. Kokarupe Lorwu, Methani Chepurai Lokuda and Chepchongil Cheleston are former cutters in Kenya who, now in their 70s, are speaking out against female genital mutilation for younger generations of women. © UNFPA Kenya/Luis Tato

Other times, that support comes from changing people's minds. Flavia Buitrón belongs to an organization of Quechua women in Peru that raises awareness of indigenous women's issues. © UNFPA Peru
