Situation Report on the Crisis in Bangladesh (October – December 2025)

Bangladesh continues to host 1,177,962 registered Rohingya refugees, with women and girls comprising 51 per cent of the population and adolescents and youth 34 per cent. In this context, UNFPA sustains life-saving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services despite funding pressures and ongoing system reforms. Maternal and perinatal mortality surveillance recorded a 22 per cent reduction in maternal deaths in 2025 compared to 2024, contributing to a 57 per cent decline since 2021, reflecting strengthened midwifery-led services and coordination.

Across the camps, UNFPA supports essential SRH services, including safe delivery care, emergency obstetric services and voluntary family planning, alongside comprehensive GBV prevention, mitigation and response. Outreach teams provide information and referrals to women, girls and families, while safe spaces and psychosocial support services reinforce survivor-centred care. UNFPA also leads coordination efforts across SRH and GBV and works closely with youth networks and women-led organizations to strengthen community engagement and service continuity.

Under the 2025–2026 Joint Response Plan, UNFPA is appealing for US$ 20.3 million to sustain SRH, GBV and adolescent programming, with a current shortfall of approximately 59 per cent. Without additional resources, essential life-saving services for women and girls remain at risk.
