Ashley Judd, UNFPA launch fundraising campaign to help Rohingya refugee mothers deliver safely

UNITED NATIONS, New York--Nearly 700,000 Rohingya refugees currently live in Kutupalong, Bangladesh, in the largest and most densely populated refugee camp in the world. Many are women and girls who have suffered unspeakable trauma and violence on their journey to safety. Among them are more than 64,000 pregnant women who urgently need maternal health care to save them and their babies.

Nearly 70 Million Girls Face Genital Mutilation by 2030- UNFPA Warns

About 68 million girls face female genital mutilation between 2015 and 2030, according to new research by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. The new figures project that the current estimates of 3.9 million girls mutilated each year will rise to 4.6 million by 2030, unless massively scaled-up efforts are taken urgently to prevent that from happening. The increase is due to projected population growth in communities that practice mutilation. More than 200 million women live with female genital mutilation today.

UNFPA Reaches 16 Million with Humanitarian Assistance in 2017

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is appealing for $463 million to provide life-saving services to about 30 million women of childbearing age, including over 4 million pregnant women, who will be affected by humanitarian crises in countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Central African Republic, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan and Syria. UNFPA humanitarian actions focus on providing sexual and reproductive health services, promoting access to family planning as well as preventing and responding to violence against women and girls.

UNAIDS, UNFPA launch road map to stop new HIV infections

GENEVA—As part of global efforts to end AIDS as a public health threat, UNAIDS, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, and partners have launched a new road map to reduce new HIV infections. The HIV prevention 2020 road map was launched at the first meeting of the Global HIV Prevention Coalition. The coalition is chaired by the Executive Directors of UNAIDS and UNFPA and brings together United Nations Member States, civil society, international organizations and other partners as part of efforts to reduce new HIV infections by 75 per cent by 2020.

UNFPA takes the lead in supporting survivors of sexual assault and other gender-based violence in the Rohingya refugee crisis

Cox’s Bazar, BANGLADESH, - Since 25 August, violence and conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine State has caused up to 480,000 Rohingya civilians to flee across the border into the Cox’s Bazar District of Bangladesh. UNFPA estimates that at least 120,000 of these refugees are women of reproductive age and 24,000 are women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

UNFPA, Baby Box Co., help Haitian mothers protect their babies during disasters

UNITED NATIONS, New York -- Under the joint campaign Safe Birth Even Here, the Ministry of Public Health and Population of Haiti and UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, have launched the Baby Box project, a new initiative to allow mothers to protect their infants in harsh situations. The project, which is supported by Johnson & Johnson, will provide 2,500 Baby Boxes to Haitian mothers and babies still living with the consequences of Hurricane Matthew, which devastated much of the South West of the country in October 2016.
