Job description

This is a Temporary Appointment on a non-rotational post valid for 8 months.

Position Summary

The P&D Technical Specialist works closely with the UNFPA Regional office and the UNFPA country offices in the six focus countries as well as the six Project Implementing units to ensure a functioning, well-managed and results-oriented project in order to facilitate implementation and delivery of project activities, and by providing technical assistance to mainstream Women empowerment and demographic dividend.

The primary roles of the P&D Technical Specialist are:

a)     Strategic technical leadership, policy and partnership

b)    Quality control of technical support and capacity development

c)     Evidence, knowledge development and dissemination

d)    Technical representation
 

Qualifications and Experience 

Education

  • Advanced university degree in public health, Economics, health economics, business or other field directly related to the substantive area identified in the title of the post.   

Experience

  • Seven years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the substantive area, of which three years at the international level;
  • Proven experience in a lead health economist role, including health sector reform, public financial management, health systems strengthening;
  • Understanding of areas relevant to UNFPA’s mandate such as family planning, maternal health, sexual and reproductive health, gender based violence, and population dynamics;
  • Demonstrated expertise in policy engagement within developing countries,
  • Established global and regional professional networks related to health economics;
  • Field experience is required, ideally within the Africa region.

English

  • Fluency in French and advanced knowledge of English, with strong oral communication and writing skills required.
  • Portuguese and Spanish an asset.
