Job description

Job Summary

 Under the overall direction of the UNFPA Representative and Deputy Representative, and direct supervision of the national GBV coordinator, the GBV sub-national coordinator will work in close collaboration with the UNFPA field and sub-offices, area humanitarian country teams, the GBV Programme Specialist and other sectors and programme units. S/he will facilitate and coordinate the implementation of multi-sectoral, interagency GBV interventions at the sub-national level.

The GBV sub-national Coordinator works in close collaboration with Programme Officers, particularly the GBV Programme Specialist, supporting quality assurance of GBV programming in the field. To this end, s/he will coordinate closely with the GBV programme team and the UNFPA decentralized offices. The GBV sub-national coordinator will also establish close working relationships with operations staff and counterparts at the Regional Office and HQ. The GBV sub-national Coordinator works in an integrated manner with other UN Organizations, technical staff in host government and civil society organizations to ensure successful implementation of UNFPA- supported Gender/ GBV prevention and response programmes.

The GBV sub-national coordinator will be based in Damascus with frequent travel to the field.

Education: 

Advanced degree in social work or other social sciences, public health, community health, international relations, international law, human rights or related field. Candidate with midwifery certification, mental health qualification and experience is a plus, previous experience especially in the field in Syria is a distinct advantage.

Knowledge and Experience:

· 5-7 years of experience working on gender-based violence, preferably in a humanitarian context.

· Experience leading inter-agency coordination mechanisms with a wide range of stakeholders.

· Demonstrable knowledge of the critical components to facilitate effective inter-agency coordination.

· Awareness and demonstrable knowledge of how GBV manifests in humanitarian settings and ability to describe context-specific prevention and response actions.

· Demonstrable knowledge of humanitarian emergency operations, including the Cluster System and HPC, and roles/responsibilities of key humanitarian actors.

· Experience designing and managing GBV programmes in an NGO (recommended).

 

· Proficiency in English oral and written is a must. Working level of Arabic is desirable.
