The 80th session of the UN General Assembly opens on 9 September and comes at a pivotal time to renew global commitments to solidarity and action for people and the planet. The theme of the session is: “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.”
The General Assembly High-level Week, held from 22 to 30 September, will spotlight the urgency of delivering on the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals and reinvigorating global cooperation.
The General Assembly is the main policy-making organ of the UN, providing a forum for multilateral discussion of international issues covered by the UN Charter. Each of the 193 Member States of the UN has an equal vote.
