UNFPA has provided support in Panama since 1975, helping to reduce disparities in access to sexual and reproductive health services in this ethnically diverse country. Initiatives include reaching out to the Ngäbe-Buglé indigenous people to prevent high maternal mortality rates by providing better training for health care providers. Other assistance is aimed at increasing education and services for youth, and bolstering care and prevention measures to reduce gender-based violence.
