UNFPA remains steadfast in ensuring sustained access to sexual and reproductive health services and in preventing, responding to, and mitigating gender-based violence in humanitarian settings. These efforts are rooted in a clear understanding that health, rights and dignity are inseparable, and in UNFPA’s mandate to lead on sexual and reproductive health and on the response to gender-based violence in emergencies. As crises intensify and funding becomes more constrained, UNFPA’s role in protecting the rights and lives of women and girls is more critical than ever.
UNFPA’s mission in emergencies is to save lives, safeguard human rights and ensure that no one is left behind. The Humanitarian Response Division leads global work on preparedness and response, partnering closely with UNFPA regional and country teams to strengthen operational readiness and deliver at scale. Through coordinated action across the organization, UNFPA works to keep essential services functioning, reinforce national and local capacities, and ensure that life-saving SRH and GBV interventions reach those most at risk.
As a global actor in humanitarian response, UNFPA continuously adapts its operational protocols, strengthens quality standards, and drives resource mobilization and advocacy to meet rising needs. In an era of overlapping and protracted crises, UNFPA remains committed to delivering principled, evidence-based, and community-centred humanitarian action.
